Optimist Club meeting January 24

Hello Friends and Optimist,

This coming Tuesday, Jan 24th, we have Melissa Hamilton as our guest speaker at our Optimist Meeting. Melissa is employed with the University of Idaho as an Extension Educator in Valley County. Mellissa will speak about the duties of her position and the projects she is currently working on. She originally came to Idaho by the McCall Outdoor Science School and did an internship in the Cascade Extension Office in 2009. Her focus areas include Community Development and Ag/horticulture. She plans on applying her experience working with farmers markets, small scale sustainable agriculture, and regional planning.

Melissa is trained in environmental education and experiential education. She previously worked with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department as an interpretative ranger. She created original content rich programs that were educational and entertaining for the public. She developed her curriculum inclusive of music, math, science, art, writing and language in order to appeal to multiple learning styles in her audience. She has worked in the environmental sector for eight years playing a key role in public outreach, management, fieldwork, and education. She enjoys strengthening the resilience of communities and strives to connect people, natural resources, and local economic opportunities within bioregions.
